With the end-of-year shopping season in full swing, it’s a perfect time to consider applying for a new credit card — especially one that rewards you generously for your holiday expenses.
If you spend a lot at Amazon and have a Prime membership, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card is a solid choice for earning cash back. And right now, it’s offering a rarely seen elevated welcome bonus: $100 Amazon gift card instantly upon approval.
Normally, this card offers a $100 or $150 Amazon gift card after approval, so this bonus is a nice improvement. Amazon Prime members also earn 5% back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases***, 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores, and 1% back on all other purchases.
However, this increased bonus is only available for a limited time through November 30, 2021. Here’s what to know if you’re considering applying.
Amazon credit card $200 sign-up bonus
14.24% to 22.24% Variable
There’s no minimum spending requirement to unlock the sign-up bonus on the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card like you’ll find on most other rewards credit cards. Instead, you’ll instantly receive your Amazon gift card on approval, so you can start using it right away toward your holiday purchases.
This card isn’t just good for earning cash back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases, either. Because it’s a Visa Signature card, you’ll get benefits like extended warranty, purchase protection, and car rental insurance.
There’s also an option to select a pay-over-time feature at checkout. You can select equal monthly payments (from six to 18 months) with a 0% APR on eligible purchases over $50 (then a 14.24% to 22.24% Variable APR). This can be useful if you want to avoid interest charges, but if you take advantage of this option, you won’t earn rewards for your purchase.
Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card cardholders can also take advantage of limited-time offers to earn 10% back on select items in popular gift categories, including:
- 10% back on toys
- 10% back on devices and smart-home
- 10% back on computers, tablets, and gaming
- 10% back on home
- 10% back on kitchen
- 10% back on TVs, audio, and wireless electronics
- 10% back on office products

If you prefer a credit card that earns bonus cash back on a broader range of purchases, there’s an option that’s especially rewarding for Amazon purchases right now.
The Discover it® Cash Back offers 5% cash back in popular rotating quarterly bonus categories when you activate, on up to $1,500 in combined spending (then 1%). You’ll also earn 1% back everywhere else (from April 1 to June 30, 2022, you can earn 5% cash back at gas stations and Target on up to $1,500 in purchases after enrollment, then 1%).
The Discover it® Cash Back doesn’t offer a traditional welcome bonus, but Discover will match all of the rewards you earn after the first 12 months through its Cashback Match program, so your 5% rewards are effectively worth 10% cash back in the first year. That’s an excellent deal for a card with no annual fee.
Alternately, you could consider a card that earns a flat cash-back rate on all purchases. For example, the Citi® Double Cash Card earns 1% back when you make a purchase, and 1% when you pay it off.
There’s also the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card (Rates & Fees), which earns 2% cash rewards on purchases — and it offers a welcome bonus of $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $1,000 in purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
