No, your Amazon Rewards points do not expire — as long as you are a cardholder. Per the Amazon Terms and Conditions page:

“Points don’t expire as long as you are a cardholder.”

If you are a regular shopper at Amazon, the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card can make a lot of sense. Typically, you won’t earn a category bonus for spending at Amazon with other cards. With an Amazon credit card, however, you can increase the returns on your spending by earning rewards points that don’t expire.

Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card Details

Features of the Amazon Rewards Visa Card include:

  • 5% cash back at and Whole Foods Market (including Whole Foods Market 365 stores and with your card if you have a qualifying Amazon prime membership. Or 3% cash back on these purchases if you do not have a qualifying Amazon prime membership.
  • 2% cash back at drug stores, restaurants, and gas stations.
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases.
  • No foreign transaction fees.
  • The card carries a $0 annual fee.

While the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card is not the most lucrative card on the market, it is still a great option when shopping on Amazon. That’s because earning 3% or 5% is always better than earning 1% with another card.

Other Ways To Maximize Amazon Earnings

While the Amazon card is a great deal to boost your earnings for shopping, it isn’t perfect. That’s because Amazon points lack the flexibility of other credit card points or pure cashback. When looking to make a payment on Amazon, you should always check if any credit cards with rotating quarterly bonus categories have included Amazon for the current quarter.

Cards like the Chase Freedom Flex℠, the Citi® Dividend Card, and even the Discover it® Cash Back have included purchases as 5% bonus categories in the past. Due to the flexibility, earning 5% cashback with Citi or Chase will always be a better value than Amazon Rewards. That’s because transferrable currencies have more options for how you use your points.

If you can’t find a card that includes Amazon as a bonus category, then and only then should you choose to use your Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card to pay for your purchase.

Our Take

Any rewards are better than no rewards — even if you can only redeem them for Amazon purchases. That being said, points that do not expire is a generous policy, and this allows you to focus on building up a balance of Amazon Rewards points to use for a special occasion — such as buying Christmas presents. Considering how many purchases are made using Amazon each year, always having the option to earn a bonus multiplier is great for maximizing your returns for every dollar you spend!
