Aeroplan has announced a 20% transfer bonus when you transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Air Canada Aeroplan. The promotion is valid for transfers now through May 31, 2022. Unlike other transfer bonus promotions, this one is not being run by Marriott. Instead, Aeroplan is awarding the bonus points after receiving the transfer from Marriott.
- Receive a 20% bonus when you transfer Marriot Bonvoy points to Aeroplan.
- The promotion is valid through May 31, 2022 at 11:59 PM EDT.
- The minimum transfer is 3,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
- The maximum transfer in a 24-hour period is 240,000 Marriot Bonvoy points.
- Allow 4 to 6 weeks for the bonus points to post to your account.
Maximizing the promotion
The best option to maximize this promotion is to “double dip” and take advantage of Marriott’s built-in transfer bonus. Typically, Marriott points transfer at a ratio of 3:1. However, when you transfer 60,000 Marriott points, you receive a 5,000-mile/point bonus. So instead of receiving 20,000 Aeroplan points for transferring 60,000 Bonvoy points, you would get 25,000 Aeroplan points.
If you opt to take advantage of this promotion, you are best served to transfer 60,000 Marriott points. this will yield a total of 30,000 Aeroplan points (20,000 from the transfer+ 5,000 Marriott Bonus + 5,000 20% Aeroplan bonus)
Using Your Aeroplan Points
There are many options for you to use your Aeroplan miles, even at the lower end of maximizing the promotion. The program has many sweet spots to take advantage of and plenty of great redemption options on shorter routes.
A quick look at the Aeroplan award chart, and you find that any travel within South America in business class on partner airlines is 30,000 points one-way plus taxes and fees. Or, if the flights are relatively short and you are happy to fly economy, then 30,000 points plus taxes and fees is enough for a roundtrip fare in economy within South America.
Looking closer to home, 30,000 points is enough for a wide range of flights in economy and business within North America. The price will depend on the distance between your destinations. The lower end (flights under 500 miles) sets you back 6,000 miles one way in economy. So, 30,000 points would be enough for five awards — which can save you several hundred dollars at least.
Any transfer bonus is welcome news. A promotion that lets you double-dip and earns two bonuses simultaneously is even better news. That being said, it is never advisable to transfer flexible points speculatively. However, if you look at your upcoming travel plans and decide that Aeroplan points would make sense, then this promotion has arrived just in time. The promotion is excellent value, especially if you can make the most out of it by transferring a minimum of 60,000 Marriot Bonvoy points.
